The holiday season is in full swing, so if you’re already planning what to do with your New Year’s Eve, we’ve got you covered with lots of fun ideas in the Fairfax area. From kid-friendly events to all-night bashes, here are a few great ways for people of all ages to ring in 2019.

Fairfax Four Miler
Each year on December 31, The City of Fairfax hosts a four-mile run that’s open to people of all ages. The run starts at 6 p.m. and registration starts at $35, which includes a post-race pizza party and a commemorative sweatshirt.

Falls Church Watch Night
Head to nearby Falls Church for their annual Watch Night, a family-friendly event based on the African tradition of “watching” in the new year. Starting at 7 p.m., there will be magicians, storytelling, face painting, and a moon bounce for kids, plus live bands, an orchestra, a DJ, fire pits and free snacks for teens and adults.

First Night Alexandria
Take part in one of the biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations in the country at First Night Alexandria, an all-day non-alcohol New Year’s Eve celebration starting at 1 p.m. There will be 100 live performances at 18 indoor venues, as well as a huge fireworks display at midnight.

8th Annual Rocknoceros New Year’s Eve Party at Jammin’ Java
For kids who can’t stay up until midnight, the 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Rocknoceros shows at Jammin’ Java in Vienna are great alternatives. Kids and their parents can toast with apple juice during the “midnight” countdowns at this local cafe, plus enjoy fun, silly music from this favorite kids’ band.
