It may not feel like spring yet, but with the calendar turning to April, the hope for spring-like weather is upon us! As the weather gets nicer, it is time to start thinking about getting outdoors again and taking advantage of any and all outdoor activities right here around us at Lakeside. On Sunday, April 8th, our neighborhood spot, Bull Run Special Events Center will hold a great outdoor activity that anyone can get involved in, the Bull Run Running Festival!
If you have been toying around with the idea of getting into running this spring, then this event is for you! The Bull Run Running Festival has a running event for all family members, no matter what age or level of running experience you have. There is a Kids 1- Mile Run. This is for anyone age 14 and under. The Kids 1-Miler will begin at 10 a.m. For the adults, there is the option to participate in a 5K (begins at 9 a.m.), 10K (begins at 8:45 a.m.) or 15K (begins at 8:30 a.m.). Once you’re done with your race, Northern Virginia’s Best Cidery, Cobbler Mountain Cidery, will be there to replenish your fluids!
The best part about the Bull Run Running Festival is that this is a charity event. Three charities, Operation Turbo, EOD Warrior Foundation and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will be battling one another for the most “Likes” on social media and votes on the day of the event (each runner will receive a voting ticket with their registration). Whichever charity receives the most “Likes” on social media will receive $200. The charity with the most votes on the day of the event will receive 25% of the event’s profits!
Register now or you can wait and register on Sunday morning prior to the events. Now, what better way to really kick off the spring season with a running event that is right in our backyard, fun and for a good cause? We know the fresh spring air will be perfect!
